His Take: The Streets of Paris By Nightfall

A stroll through Paris in the daytime is about as relaxing and soothing an experience as one could possibly hope to imagine. Chill on the manmade beach along the River Seine, enjoy a nap on the green space in front of the Eiffel Tower, or burn away the afternoon in a Parisian cafe. No matter …

1. The Eiffel Tower puts on a light show every hour after sunset, lasting for five minutes. It is only lit until 1-2am, so be sure to see it before then!

2. Drinking on the streets is not illegal, so grab a bottle of wine and drink it while you stroll.

3. The Louvre, Arche de Triomphe, and Place de la Concorde are perfectly lit and put the daytime version of themselves to shame… which is near impossible to do.

No matter how you choose to spend your first day in Paris, it will be impossible for you to believe that life could get any better. Of course, that is because you have not yet experienced the city at night.

Paris by day is beautiful. Paris by night is the most romantic city in the world. Case and point: The Eiffel Tower. I truly believe that until you’ve seen it at night, you haven’t really seen it. Walking out on to the Place du Trocadero which perfectly frames the enormous, illuminated golden tower is an experience that I can’t possibly put in to words. Some world famous attractions are a little anti-climactic when you actually see them in person. Big Ben and the Colosseum were a bit like that for me. Don’t get me wrong, they’re amazing buildings and I’m lucky to have seen them… but the Eiffel Tower is different. I could literally spend an entire night sitting on the lawn in front of the tower staring at it and never want to leave. It’s just that pretty.

Paris isn’t a small town, and a good chunk of the places that you’ll want to visit at night are decently spread out. A few bottles of wine can help make that journey go by a little quicker. Remember, drinking on the streets here is not illegal. You might want to grab a baguette and some cheese to nibble on as well. As long as you don’t buy them in a tourist haven, it will be dirt cheap.

The Arche de Triomphe, the Louvre, and the Place de la Concorde are all amazing after sunset, and perfectly lit. I suggest making your rounds through all of these spots. It may take you well past 3am, but if you didn’t pull a near all-nighter at least once on your visit, you didn’t make the most of your time in Paris.
