1. Don’t come here on an empty stomach. The portions are small and you’re better off to snack on shared plates while drinking beer.

2. Come here with a group of friends in the summer to enjoy the picnic table-style seating outside.

3. Be prepared to get drunk. Some beers are as high as 10%.

Bellwoods Brewery Toronto is an ideal place to chill out and relax in the summer. With so many people cooped up inside during the winter months, the minute the weather warms up it seems like everyone would practically live on a patio if they could. Bellwoods Brewery is equipped with picnic tables that jut out from a garage-turned-microbrewery, a transformation which is pretty damn cool. They’ve even managed to add a sense of romance to the place, with an upstairs eating area that looks down on the action below.

As far as food is concerned, don’t come here on an empty stomach. The menu is not extensive, and serves best as a snack to accompany the mouthwatering beer. When we were there in the summer most meals were cooked BBQ style, with corn on the cob and hot dogs being the main dishes. At Bellwoods Brewery Toronto the snacks and platters seem to stay consistent, with more changes on the feature plates. Be sure to check the menu ahead of time to see if anything catches your eye.

As far as beer goes, this place wins by a mile. The brewery is constantly coming up with new concoctions, and the recipes never skimp out on alcohol content. The Hellwoods for example is 10%, so get your drinking shoes on. This place is the closest I’ve come to experiencing Belgian-quality beer in Canada, as most brew houses can never strike a balance between a high percentage of alcohol and taste. Come here with a few friends and chill out at the picnic tables for an ideal summer evening.
