Banff in Alberta is nestled in the Rocky Mountains, an area that’s home to many word-renown ski hills and hiking trails. I love talking to any Europeans who have ventured to this neck of the woods, since through their eyes there is nowhere more beautiful. Now that I have expanded my travels to various places across the globe I can understand their awe at the site of towering snow-capped mountains and emerald green glacier lakes. If you are planning on visiting this spot for a couple of days, there are a few activities to sketch into that to-do list.

First, hop on a bus to see Lake Louise, which is 45 minutes away. I¬†guarantee you will be blown away by the color of the water along with the backdrop of the mountains. Here you can also visit the chateau, a modern castle-like villa that offers quality restaurants or even quick spots to grab a coffee. In the winter the lake freezes over and managers from the chateau offer skate rentals and keep a fire burning near the water’s edge. Hot chocolate is also provided!

Second, if you don’t decide to stay at the Banff Springs Hotel, at least visit the place. There is so much history here, since it was built by Canadian Pacific Railway in 1888. Picture a castle in the middle of the mountains, and you’ll have a pretty good idea of what the hotel looks like. If you are simply wandering through, be sure to grab a drink in the Rundle Lounge to soak in the sites of the surrounding area.

Finally, be sure to spend a day skiing on one of the many mountains around Banff. Lake Louise and Sunshine are just a couple of options, but there are others to choose from. At the end of the day come down for a wander through town and grab food at the Silver Dragon Inn, a Chinese spot that Kyle absolutely loves. Throughout all of this remember one thing: take pictures! For a place this spectacular you’ll need photographic evidence for your friends to believe it.
